How do I raise the money?

If you were spoken to at your school by a staff representative from Shram Event Management, then your school coordinator will liaise and help with your fundraising. There are innumerable ways to raise money; bag packing, sponsored events, own clothes days, raffles, discos, auctions, concerts, fashion shows, donations etc. etc. Money can be raised on an individual basis or in groups. Some companies do matched funding.

What if I can’t raise all the money?

You can drop down to the following year’s trip to allow you more time. If you need to drop out totally you can do so at any time, all we ask is that all monies raised in the name of The Joshua Foundation are forwarded on to us asap.

How hard and fast are the deadlines?

Nothing is set in stone; we set them as a guide and should be looked at as a minimum amount. It is always best to try and get ahead of the deadlines to take the pressure off at the end. We know that sometimes when big events are planned they do not always fit in with deadlines and we will therefore work with you on this.

Where does the money go?

If you participate in one of these projects you will be required to raise £2750 for The Oz Experience and £2000 for The USA Experience. 50% of the sponsorship will go to the Cardiff based children’s charity; The Joshua Foundation which provide life changing experiences and opportunities for children with terminal cancer. These are not one off experiences and are not dependent on whether they have already had something from another charity. The money raised by one Oz team member would pay for example a family of four to go to Lapland.

Will there be spiders and snakes when we go to the OZ or USA?

You will be going in the Australian winter so the majority of the snakes and spiders will be hibernating.

You will be going in the USA summer period, so you may come across some wildlife. You will be fully briefed in the USA of what to expect.

What sort of clothes should I take and what will the weather be like?

We suggest taking old clothes for the project work and if you want to you can leave them there and you will have more room to bring things back.

In Oz, we suggest taking layers of clothing as you will be traveling in Australia’s winter and it can get very cold.

In the USA, we suggest taking layers of clothing as in the evening it may get cooler. During the day the weather should be in the high 20’s.

Comfortable footwear is a must both for the project work and the trip. You are allowed 20kgs of luggage on the flights so plan your packing carefully.

What innoculations do I need?

We suggest consulting your GP. We advise that you are up to date with your booster’s etc i.e for Tetanus etc. When last year's trip went there were no compulsory innoculations for any of the areas visited. Some GPs may issue a list of recommended ones and it is then up to the individual whether or not they have them.
