Trips To Australia
In 2002, 30 youngsters from across the UK travelled Down Under
raising over £30,000 for the charity. In 2003, 58 youngsters made
the journey followed by a team of 82 in 2004 and 107 in 2005.
We have a team of 295 registered for the 2006 trip and are
currently recruiting for the 2007 trip.
The youngsters travel to Australia, via London Heathrow, led by experienced team leaders. The groups depart in July every summer and travel to entry points in Australia where they have the opportunity to recover from their jetlag and see some local sites. In 2004 the Melbourne team visited the Puffing Billy Steam Train and the Brisbane group made an unforgettable trip to Steve Irwin’s Crocodile Zoo.
The groups stay in YHA Australia accommodation for the majority of
their stay.
An important part of the trip is the visit to a Children’s Hospital in the entry city -the group visits the Oncology Unit and spends time giving presents to the kids and chatting with the families.
Then the groups depart for their conservation work.CVA is Australia’s largest conservation organisation and during their project, the youngsters can expect to experience tree planting, working at animal reserves and tending to the protection and learning about aboriginal cultural/environmental issues.
There is no such thing as an average day on a CVA project but the youngsters
can expect to work on a project from 8am and at night there is a chance
to cook dinner and unwind.
After a week of hard work, its on to Sydney for some further conservation
work and some sightseeing. There is a trip to the Blue
Mountains, a visit to the Sydney Jewish Musuem and a climb to the top
of the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. Its all finished off with a party
at the Hard Rock café where everyone can celebrate their hard
work.
