How do I raise the money?

Your school co-ordinator is there to help you with ideas and support you. There are innumerable ways to raise money; bag packing, sponsored events, own clothes days, raffles, discos, auctions, concerts, fashion shows, donations etc. etc. Money can be raised on an individual basis or in groups. Some companies do matched funding.

What if I can’t raise all the money?

You can drop down to the following year’s trip to allow you more time. If you need to drop out totally you can do so at any time, all we ask is that all monies raised in the name of The Joshua Foundation are forwarded on to us asap.

How hard and fast are the deadlines?

Nothing is set in stone, we set them as a guide and should be looked at as a minimum amount. It is always best to try and get ahead of the deadlines to take the pressure off at the end. Each area has a school co-ordinator who will help with ideas and advice. We know that sometimes when big events are planned they do not always fit in with deadlines and we will therefore work with you on this.

Where does the money go?

Approximately 50% of the money raised goes on the cost of the trip to Australia and the other half goes towards providing experiences for children with terminal cancer and their families. These are not one off experiences and are not dependent on whether they have already had something from another charity. The money raised by one Oz team member would pay for a family of four to go to Lapland.

Will there be spiders and snakes when we go to Australia?

You will be going in the Australian winter so the majority of the snakes and spiders will be hibernating.

What sort of clothes should I take and what will the weather be like?

We suggest taking old clothes for the conservation work and if you want to you can leave them there and you will have more room to bring things back. We suggest taking layers of clothing as you will be both in Sydney and in one other area of Australia for your conservation work. The Melbourne area will be cold and you will need warm clothes. The Brisbane area is warm and you might need to allow for the sun. You should take some lightweight waterproofs. The stopover is likely to be in a warm place such as Hong Kong so take suitable clothing for this. Comfortable footwear is a must both for the conservation work and the trip in general as there is a lot of footwork. You are allowed 20kgs of luggage on the flights so plan your packing carefully.

What innoculations do I need?

We suggest consulting your GP. When last year's trip went there were no compulsory innoculations for any of the areas visited. Some GPs may issue a list of recommended ones and it is then up to the individual whether or not they have them.
